Stefan de Vrij will get the nod in defense ahead of Francesco Acerbi in Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Lazio tomorrow.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

For the last few matches, defender Acerbi has been absent through injury for Inter.

The 36-year-old had last started in the derby against AC Milan last month. He was actually on the scoresheet as the Nerazzurri beat their city rivals 2-1 in the match which clinched the Serie A title.

Since then, however, Acerbi has been out with a groin problem.

The injury has not been a serious one for Acerbi. However, it is not as though there has been any reason to take risks with the fitness of the veteran defender considering that the title is sewn up.

Stefan De Vrij To Start Ahead Of Francesco Acerbi In Inter Vs Lazio

In the meantime, 32-year-old Dutch international de Vrij has started Inter’s last three matches against Torino, Sassuolo, and Frosinone.

Inter have kept clean sheets in two of those matches, whilst in the surprise loss to Sassuolo, the solitary Neroverdi goal was hardly the fault of de Vrij.

Therefore, the Corriere report, de Vrij will keep his place at the heart of Inter’s back three tomorrow.

Acerbi will be part of the squad. He has returned to training this past week.

However, it will be de Vrij who keeps his place against his former team the Biancocelesti – rather than the player who replaced him at the Stadio Olimpico when he joined Inter in 2018.

Acerbi will then be an option off the bench.

Meanwhile, the Corriere anticipate, it will otherwise be a full-strength Inter starting eleven.

The newspaper’s complete predicted lineup for tomorrow’s match is as follows:

Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro.
